I came here to study?

Yea that's the question I ask myself everyday and it's crazy to think but yes school is the "main" reason I came here ; so how it works is I can only take 4 classes here which equals out to about 15 credits back home

My classes:

Marine 100G: the oceans around us- this is my second easiest class. what do i learn about, well you guessed it, the ocean. And being from Wisconsin, it's pretty cool because we don't have daily interactions with the ocean so we don't really think about it so much. it transfers as one of my gen ed. courses which is pretty cool. but here i talk about 1. dynamic ocean and global processes 2. living oceans 3. ocean resources 4. ocean values & 5. future oceans. So one week I will have 3 lectures on 3 days and the next week i have 1 lecture and 1 dialogue session where guest speakers will come in and tell us about their profession and what they are researching or post-grad/ph.d students as well to see their thoughts & ideas.

Pacific studies 110: Music and dance- my easiest class. it's really cool being here and having the pacific islands around us so we dipped into the pacific culture of the Fijians, Tongans, Samoans, etc. in this class i have part of it theory, so learning about the different dances, aspects of dance, where they originated, music and more. the other half is the practical, so physically learning a dance and singing a song (even though im not a singer) Our class this semester is learning a Fijian dance and it's actually the first time any university in Auckland has ever taught a Fijian dance so i'm making history over here (right) . but for those who are confused out of their minds about this, the only relateable aspect i can think of is the natives with the reservations and all the different tribes who have their different types of dances at pow-wows.

Psych 311: Social Psychology- even though it's my major, here it has been one of my least favorite classes. We have different lecturers who come in different weeks and educate us on a topic based on their area of research. and they teach from their research rather than out of a textbook. my first lecturer was just biased and uber boring so i just ended up skipping hers anyways. Our lectures here are recorded if they are 100 or more students, which is what every university should do, 100% in love with it. Anyways so I have 3 hours of lecture on 2 days in the week then a 2 hour tutorial another day. Which a tutorial is where you sit in a small classroom with a few people and a tutor and discuss the topic further.

MED SCI 307: Neuropharmacology-  the class that kicks my ass. not having basic pharmacology offered at my university back home i thought it was a great idea to take this. No no no. So i have 2, two hour labs and 1 three hour lab. all on a different campus about 1 mile behind carlaw (my other classes are about a 15 minute walk the other way) so especially if it rains, these lectures get neglected. but it's challenging which is what school is supposed to be, and the class itself is extremely interesting and useful. so we'll see how this one turns out at the end of the semester.
